PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE for 2020
The Hawarden A&P Association welcomes you to our 114th Show for 2020.
We also welcome all our Exhibitors and participants and trust they have a successful and enjoyable day.
This year’s Show Theme is “Who let the dogs out”.
To high light the Dog as valuable working partner we have a dog trial section with Handy dog event and class two Drive and Yard with the run off at 3.30 pm at the sheep dog trial section in our program.
To acknowledge the Dog as treasured and clever companion the North Canterbury Dog training club is having a display of Obedience, Rally-O and Canine Good Citizen on site. Also Julie Donavan has very kindly offered to bring her Agility gear for the use and try out in the Agility classes. We are hoping the Pet dog section is well supported.
Donald Stuart will be showing his clever Dog herding Ducks presented three times at different locations with the final head in the main ring at 5 pm, which will be exciting to watch.
The Husky Rescue Christchurch will be presenting the Husky and its use as sport dog with Harness gear at 1 pm at the Dog display area.
Our Guest presenter is Brad Lake from “The Brothers Green”, “Original Canvas” and “Koaka” and also speaking on behalf of “Mainland Hemp”. The presentation in a new field of the cultivation and use of Hemp is sure to be a major drawcard.
Today is also a great chance to meet up with two fantastic health and wellbeing advocates. We are pleased to welcome “Dr. Tom on a Mission” who is stopping here today and will be focusing on rural and men’s health awareness. Lucy and Marina, organisers of Women’s Wellbeing workshops in Canterbury, will be displaying, what “InsideOut Confidence” has on offer.
A further highlight of the show is on our young folk in the Young Persons challenge, running in conjunction with the Hurunui Young Farmers Association, who will be undertaking different tasks starting at 3.30 pm at the community area. Good Luck Lad’s and Gal’s.
A huge Thank you to all our sponsors, without your financial Input, this Show wouldn’t be possible and the continuous support is very much appreciated.
A special Thank you to our Principal Sponsor Chris and Jacqui Randall from Dunblane Shorthorn’s who are having an exhibition at the showgrounds. A presentation and commentary will be made at 11.30 am.
Also a very big Thank you to our Premium sponsor G.V.T for all the support throughout the years.
We thank everyone who has provided Gift lambs, which is a big part of the show’s success.
We highly value the support we have received from our Trade space sections and our Judges, especially those who have travelled a long distance.
To all the Marshals, Stewards and Volunteers, Thank you very much for your time, efforts, knowledge and help, we value your input immensely and are very grateful for all your work and creativity you are putting into this show. A special Thank you to Peter Black and Hamish Hartnell for their time and effort on watering the show oval, a massive physical and timely effort due to unusually dry conditions and added unforeseen circumstances in the theft of the original K-line.
A huge Thank you to our secretary Angela Cooper for all her hard work in what is a very demanding role and our executive committee Tom and Ann Costello and Rocci Scott and Penny Loffhagen for their input to ensure the success of the day.
